Austin-Healey was a British sports car maker formed in 1952 through a joint venture between the Austin division of the British Motor Corporation (BMC) and the Donald Healey Motor Company.
The venture aimed to produce affordable sports cars, with the first model being the Austin-Healey 100.
One lesser-known story involves the "Healey Hundred" name. Donald Healey built a prototype and displayed it at the 1952 London Motor Show. BMC boss Leonard Lord was so impressed that he struck a deal to build it. Lord, after test driving the car, supposedly said it should do 100 mph, hence the name "Hundred."
