Châssis n° 20024 La firme aéronautique française Matra (Mécanique Aviation TRAction) se lança dans l'automobile en 1965 en rachetant René Bonnet et en reprenant la construction de sa petite sportive Djet.

Présentée au Salon de Paris en octobre 1962, l'élégante René Bonnet Djet fut la première voiture de série à moteur central du monde à être commercialisée, avant la confidentielle ATS 2500 GT et quatre ans avant la Lamborghini Miura et la Dino 206 GT et bien avant la Lotus Europe de Colin Chapman qui avait pourtant été l'un des chantres du moteur central en compétition.

Beaucoup furent utilisées en compétition et avant d'être dévoilée et commercialisée en octobre, la Djet avait couru au 1000 Km du Nürburgring en mai 1962 et remporté l'indice énergétique aux 24 Heures du Mans en juin de la même année.
