Alors que le prototype n°818000 sera réalisé au printemps 1951 par les ateliers turinois Motto, c'est Letourneur & Marchand qui présentera sur son stand, le premier coach (n°818001) lors du Salon de Paris 1951, recevant pour l'occasion le Grand Prix du salon.
La production du type 235 restera modérée jusqu'à la fermeture des usines en 1954, et sur les 84/85 exemplaires commercialisés, les carrossiers Letourneur & Marchand livreront seulement 4 coaches et un seul cabriolet, les 5 étant survivants de nos jours.
L'exemplaire n°818037 présenté est le dernier de ces 4 coaches et le seul à disposer d'un toit ouvrant.
