After the war, Panhard, the old French brand, started to produce simple, robust and efficient cars.
After the Dyna X and its very Louis XV baroque style, the Z was introduced in June 1953.
With its very round face and elegant Duralinox bodywork, the newborn car had a revolutionary Cx for the time of 0.26 and exceptional performance for a car with such a small displacement (851 cc twin-cylinder).
It consumed only 6 liters per 100 km while carrying 6 passengers...
The recipe is ideal for commercial success, but the production costs, especially for the Duralinox body, were underestimated, and management (Citroën took a 25% stake in the brand in 1955, and then 45% in 1958) decided to go all-steel in 1958, with an extra weight of more than 150 kg.
