Tell Me More

The Lancia Beta Montecarlo, a Pininfarina-designed mid-engined sports car, was produced from 1975 to 1981. It was initially named Lancia Beta Monte Carlo (two words) but was later renamed Lancia Montecarlo (one word) to avoid confusion with the similarly named Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

The car gained fame in motorsport, particularly with the Lancia Beta Montecarlo Turbo, which secured Lancia's victory in the World Championship for Makes in 1980 and 1981.

There was no direct successor to the Lancia Montecarlo.

A little-known fact is that the Montecarlo's design was initially proposed to Fiat as a potential replacement for the Fiat 124 Spider. However, Fiat rejected the design, leading Pininfarina to offer it to Lancia.
