Gordini got off the mark in the late 1950 s where his competition-tuned Dauphine went down as a resounding success.

Through multiple triumphs across a range of motor sports using the Dauphine, Gordini introduced the Renault 8 in 1962 in order to advance within the rallying scene.

While it shared the same Dauphine rear-engined layout it used a new selection of more tunable engines that were consistently modified by Gordini and went on to achieve great results at international level despite the Mini Cooper dominating the era.
