Production continued through 1929 with continuous improvements made to a design of proven performance and reliability.

Mostly fitted with two-seat bodywork (in aluminium at extra cost), the CGS afforded owners the opportunity to enter local competitions, proving highly successful.

Indeed, so popular was the Amilcar CGS that it was built under license in Italy, Germany, and Austria, and sold in the USA by no less than Maybach Motors in New York City.

This well-travelled Amilcar CGS was found in a poor state in South Africa in 1982.

The current vendor purchased the car on an onion farm in Franshoek, a place founded by French settlers, one of whom may have brought it back from France.
