Based on the A40 Devon saloon, the A40 Sports convertible was built between 1950 and 1953.

Austin had agreed to supply engines for Jensen's new Interceptor, and the West Bromwich firm was invited to produce a similarly styled convertible on the A40 chassis.

Jensen not only designed and built the steel body, but was also entrusted with final assembly.

The Devon chassis featured independent front suspension by wishbones and coil springs with a semi-elliptically-sprung live axle at the rear, a front anti-roll bar being added for the Sports.

Boosted in power by means of a modified cylinder head and twin SU carburettors, the 1,200cc A-Series engine drove via a four-speed gearbox equipped with floor change initially and column change from August 1951.

With 50bhp on tap, the Sports was good for a top speed of 78mph.

Only 4,011 were built and the model is relatively rare today.

This example was purchased in New Zealand by the current vendor shortly after its restoration in 2001.
