In 1983, when Peugeot launched the 205, the carmaker was in financial trouble and its future was dependent on the success of this new model.

In order to boost its image, Peugeot decided to go into motorsport with a model close to the 205.

The 205 Turbo 16 was therefore developed to compete in the World Rally Championship, in the top Group B category.

The regulations required that 200 production cars be built for the model to be homologated.

Peugeot presented the “200- series” 205 Turbo 16 at the 1984 Geneva Motor Show.

This pumped-up version of the 205 was characterized by its body finished in Magnum Grey with a red pinstripe, which was built by Heuliez.

It was then assembled by Peugeot Talbot Sport in Boulogne and fitted with an XU 4-cylinder 1.8-litre engine equipped with a turbocharger, enabling it to produce 200bhp.
