CITROEN AMI

The Citroen Ami, a quirky electric quadricycle, revived a name from Citroen's past. The original Ami, launched in 1961, aimed to bridge the gap between the 2CV and the larger DS, offering more comfort and features.

It was designed by Flaminio Bertoni, also responsible for the Traction Avant and DS. The Ami's most distinctive feature was its reverse-sloping rear window on the Ami 6, intended to keep the rear window clean in bad weather.

The modern Ami, introduced in 2020, shares no direct mechanical link with its predecessor, embracing electric mobility as an ultra-compact urban vehicle. There is no direct successor to the modern Ami as of now.

A little-known fact about the original Ami 6 is that its unusual roofline was initially met with resistance within Citroen. Some executives were unsure about its unconventional design, fearing it might not appeal to buyers. However, Bertoni stood firm, believing in his vision, and the Ami 6 went on to become a commercial success, proving that sometimes the boldest designs can pay off.
