Bentley Motors was founded in 1919 by W.O. Bentley. He aimed to build "a good car, a fast car, the best in its class."
Bentley achieved early success in motorsport, winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1924. Financial difficulties led to Rolls-Royce acquiring Bentley in 1931.
Did you know? In 1922, Bentley created a special car for a race. It had an experimental engine, but it was too loud. The mechanics nicknamed it "The Hairy Mary" because of the noise.
