THE FAQs

The frequently asked questions about this model

Tell Me More

The Leyland Mini, a British icon, emerged from the British Motor Corporation (BMC) in 1959. Designed by Alec Issigonis, its compact size and innovative front-wheel-drive layout revolutionized the automotive industry.

Originally marketed as the Austin Seven and Morris Mini-Minor, it was rebranded as the Mini in 1969. Leyland Motors acquired BMC in 1968, leading to the name Leyland Mini.

The Mini's success extended beyond practicality. It became a cultural symbol of the 1960s, embraced by celebrities and featured in films like "The Italian Job."

Production continued under various ownerships, including Rover Group and BMW. The classic Mini ceased production in 2000.

Its successor is the BMW Mini, launched in 2001, retaining the iconic design with modern engineering.

A little-known fact: During the 1960s, BMC considered building a Mini pickup truck. Several prototypes were made, but the project was shelved due to concerns about production costs. However, a few private conversions exist today, making them incredibly rare and sought-after by collectors.
