When new, the Consul Capri provided British buyers with genuine glamour and glitz; an American inspired car with a package suited for those who wished to turn heads, on a manageable scale and with the dependability of well-proven mechanics.

Released in 1962, the Consul Capri was placed in the Ford lineup as a stylish and compact car, with genuine exclusivity.

Sadly, the fast-paced changing fads of 1960s car styling were unkind to the Consul Classic, as the car, with its flamboyant fins, heavy chrome trim and curved screens, looked passé by the end of the decade, but the Consul Capri's snapshot of the jet era looks positively stunning today.

One of the other criticisms was the mediocre power, the Consul Capri was really built for modest cruising and being admired and some felt the original engines were not quick enough.

However, this 1963 example has been retrofitted with a rebuilt Crossflow 1.6-litre from a Ford Escort, which goes some way to address that original drawback.
