Vehicle Details
AI Listing Summary
This 1964 Ford Consul Capri, sold from a deceased estate, requires recommissioning after 20 years off the road. While it's understood to be largely solid and running, it had a brush with celebrity in the 90s but has since deteriorated, needing restoration.
Condition
3
The car has been off the road for over 20 years and requires recommissioning or light restoration. There are mentions of it looking tired in the early 2000s, later repainted with 1970s Appliance wheels, and restoration did not progress after being acquired by the late owner in 2012. These all indicate substantial cosmetic and mechanical issues.

Perhaps the most beautiful car Ford of Britain ever produced, the Ford Consul Capri was the glamorous two-door coupé version of the family man’s Consul Classic.
Produced from 1961 to 1964, both cars took styling cues from the American 1958-60 Ford Thunderbirds, and their bright colour palettes and space-age fins captured very much captured the optimistic spirit of the times.
Originally powered by the 1,340cc four-cylinder Kent engine, a 1,498cc unit took over from August, 1962, along with a new gearbox with synchromesh on all four speeds.
Produced for export only for its first few months, British sales of the Capri started in January, 1962, but both it and the Classic were discontinued not long after the more modern and Italian-influenced Cortina arrived in 1963.
The Motor drove a Capri up to 79mph and from 0-60mph in 22.6 seconds, also returning an impressive 36.7mpg.
