AI Listing Summary
This is a one-owner, standard E39 M5 with a comprehensive service history, featuring the desirable Carbon Black exterior and Caramel leather interior. Despite its low mileage and strong mechanicals, it requires significant cosmetic attention to the paintwork, wheels, and interior trim, along with some mechanical upkeep.
With its legendary V8 engine and handling, this E39 M5 is a sought-after classic, and being offered with no reserve presents a unique opportunity for enthusiasts willing to undertake the necessary reconditioning.
Condition
5
The car has numerous cosmetic issues including stone chips, flat paint, dents, scratches, sanding marks, paint runs, bubbling paint, faded trim, perished rubber seals, and a damaged windscreen. The wheels also require refurbishment due to corrosion and damage. Mechanically, while the engine runs well, there are issues with the coolant temperature gauge, and the car will need new brake and fuel pipes, as well as potentially new front brake discs and pads. The underside shows corrosion on the sills and around rear seatbelt mounting points.

Which is remarkable, but not as remarkable as the fact it is still in the hands of the man who bought it from the Hughenden Motor Co. Ltd of High Wycombe in July 1999.
The owner had heard rumours of a forthcoming M5 and rather than sit and wait he wrote to his local BMW dealer to express his interest – and he enclosed a £250 deposit to make sure they took him seriously.
He got the call about eighteen months later and ended up writing a cheque for £72,115, which is the equivalent of more than £140,000 today.
It was clearly worth every penny though and he hung onto it for the next 27 years.
Yup, that’s right; this is a one-owner-from-new BMW E39 – and an M5 to boot.
