Among the most elegant post-war bodies created for Rolls-Royce was the Silver Cloud II Drophead Coupe by H.J.
Mulliner, design number 7504.
Introduced very late in Silver Cloud I production, the car was known as an “Adaptation,” as it was created using a factory standard steel saloon body that had been modified into a convertible by removing the steel top, fitting two doors in place of the usual four, and adding a modified chromed waistline moulding.
So thoroughly massaged and reworked were the factory components, however, that the end result was truly a piece of coachbuilt craftsmanship as fine as any fully custom body.
More than half of the 107 Drophead Coupe Adaptations produced were exported across the Atlantic Ocean to meet the great demand in the United States.
According to the build sheet copy on file, this Rolls-Royce was delivered new to Elisabeth Barney of Palm Beach, Florida.
The document further details the vehicle as being specified with power windows and split bench...
