Description
Building on the success of the first Audi R8 LMS, the German marque launched the LMS Ultra in 2012.
The Ultra is powered by a 5.2-litre, 40-valve V-10 engine, generating 562 horsepower and 369 ft lb of torque, making it more powerful than its predecessor.
Such is its performance potential, the car is capable of pulling 1.8 G in a corner and has a 0 to 60 mph time of 3.2 seconds.
The Audi was equipped with a new pneumatically actuated six-speed sequential sports gearbox and improved oil coolers for the engine and gearbox fluids.
The R8 LMS Ultra was lighter, too, weighing in 40 kilograms less than the standard car at 1,250 kilograms.
The Ultra had revised aerodynamics, including a larger rear wing and improved air flow at the front of the car to aid cooling of both the engine and cabin.
The doors are made from carbon fibre-reinforced plastic, a development in technology that was new to Audi at the time.
