The Auburns of the 1931 to 1933 period are among the most stylish and sporty cars of their time and, with the addition of a dual-ratio rear axle in 1932, these rare models are considered the most desirable of the series.

Dual-Ratio offered drivers the choice of a high or low variant of any of the three forward gears.

In essence this created a very rudimentary, and possibly the earliest, six-speed transmission.

By adjusting a lever mounted on the steering wheel, the driver could select high or low range as long as the car was moving at speeds lower than 40 miles per hour.
