After using 911E Coupes, the police wanted an open car to enable them to communicate better with the drivers they intercepted.

At this time, when the Carrera 2.7 was about to give way to the Carrera 3.0, Porsche offered the Belgian government a small series of Targas.

The entire 1976 production run of 20 Carrera 2.7 Targas was reserved for the Belgian police.
