Developed by Colin Chapman, the model's philosophy is based on extreme lightness and exemplary handling, making the Europa a true sports car built for performance.
In 1972, Lotus introduced the Europa Special, the ultimate version of the range.
It was initially powered by the Renault 16 engine, a 1.6-liter block that developed 82 HP in its early versions.
But it was with the arrival of the Ford Twin Cam, a 1.6-liter twin-cam engine, that the car reached its full potential.
This new block, fitted with two Weber carburetors, enabled the Europa Spécial to develop up to 126 HP, offering impressive performance for a car weighing less than 800 kg.
