Successor of the mythical Jaguar C-Type, the D-Type is a racing car produced by the English manufacturer in order to continue its involvement in competition and particularly in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
If the first one is already famous by winning the race in 1951 and 1953, the second one takes over with success.
It won the first place of the podium for the 1955, 1956 and 1957 editions.
This success is due to many technical elements that make it a real killer: disc brakes on all four wheels (still rare for racing cars of that time), a 3.4L engine developing 241 horsepower, a monocoque allowing the weight saving of a chassis (as on the Type C) as well as a real work done on the aerodynamics.
We owe its design to Malcolm Sayer, just like the design of the E-Type.
