What can you say about the Land Rover that hasn’t already been said? Created as a true workhorse in the 1940s, decades before anyone ever imagined it as “lifestyle vehicle”, the basic platform proved to be very adaptable.

Designed particularly for farm and light industrial use, the Land Rover was quickly modified for a whole multitude of purposes, including fire-fighting duties.

Its compact size and four wheel drive made it ideal for use where lack of space or rough terrain meant a full size fire engine was unsuitable.

By the end of the 1960s, Land Rover fire engines were in operation with many county fire authorities, as well as industrial firms and airfields.
