The arrival of the Ford Sierra in 1982 marked a dramatic departure from convention.

Replacing the long-serving Cortina, Ford's boldly styled aerodynamic hatchback represented a new direction for the company and, perhaps more significantly, provided the ideal foundation for a new generation of competition machinery.

Working in partnership with Cosworth, Ford developed what would become one of the most celebrated performance cars of the 1980s, the Sierra RS Cosworth.

Conceived primarily as a homologation special for Group A Touring Car racing, the Sierra RS Cosworth was engineered with competition very much at its heart.

To satisfy FIA regulations, Ford was required to build 5,000 road-going examples and ultimately produced 5,545 three-door cars, including the legendary RS500 variants.
