The Ferrari 458 Italia was first officially unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, and was the replacement for the F430, in the mid-engine, V8-powered model range.

In keeping with Ferrari tradition, the body was designed by Pininfarina under the leadership of Donato Coco, Ferrari's Design Director.

The car's exterior styling and features were designed for aerodynamic efficiency, producing a downforce of 140kg (309lbs) at 200kph (120mph), the front grille, for example, features deformable winglets that lower at high speeds in order to offer reduced drag.

The 458 is powered by a 4.5-litre V8 engine from the Ferrari/Maserati F136-engine family, producing 562bhp and 398lb/ft torque at 6,000rpm with 80% torque available at 3,250rpm.

The engine also featured direct fuel-injection which is a first for Ferrari mid-engine set-ups in its road cars.
