This impressive 1940 Leyland FK8 was commissioned when new to Brixham Fire Service – and no doubt served Plymouth during World War II.
Powered by a gutsy six cylinder, overhead valve petrol engine, the vehicle had ample oomph to transport all the gear, water and six burley firemen to whatever the emergency.
With a pump capable of delivering five hundred gallons of water per minute, the 4730cc FK8 was a well-equipped Fire Engine indeed.
We are assured that the open Leyland Motors Ltd coachwork, running gear and pump are in good, usable condition, and with plenty of impressive brass, this Engine has been, and should continue to be, a welcome addition to many a commercial gathering.
We are assured that the engine starts readily and that the vehicle drives nicely.
The brakes have recently been dismantled and thoroughly checked; all cylinders have been honed and new rubbers fitted, and apparently the brake shoes and drums are like new.
