The seller notes a few blemishes on the lower panels, imperfections in the side windows, light surface wear on door shuts, drip rails, and hinges, age-related upholstery creases, and scratches on the chrome-trimmed dials and switchgear controls. Also, the clock and oil pressure gauge do not work. These issues indicate moderate wear and the need for some reconditioning.

KEY FACTS This T1-generation Volkswagen Type 2 13-Window Splitscreen Campervan is an iconic and beloved German classic, which benefits from previous restorative maintenance and has been enhanced with discerning upgrades.

Under the rear engine lid now sits a naturally aspirated 1,776cc ‘Steve Strong’ air-cooled flat-four, which sends its power to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission.

This example started life as a German-market Kombi model, which is believed to have been first registered in January 1966, and was imported and first registered in the UK in July 1969.

It is understood to have originally been imported by a US serviceman on an overseas posting, and the bus was used on a military airbase in East Anglia during its first three years in the UK, before being converted to campervan specification later in its life by VWorks, Kent.

The DVLA has not been made aware of the engine capacity increase.

The odometer shows 29,480 miles, though this is not warranted.
