V Escort RS2000 was launched in 1991 and was built as a successor to the legendary Mk
I and Mk
II Escorts of the 1970s, Ford marketing the car under the slogan: ‘The Champ is Back’.
Sharing the same basic bodyshell as the standard Mk
V, the RS2000 had additional body colour spoilers, distinctive power bulges in the bonnet and special 15” alloy wheels to set it apart from the less sporting models.
Power came from a fuel-injected 2-litre DOHC 16-valve engine that produced 150bhp.
Mated to a beefed-up 5-speed gearbox, it could launch the car to 60mph in 8.0 seconds with a top speed of 130mph.
