Description
MG’s first post-war saloon, the Y-Type employed the advanced features of coil-spring independent front suspension and rack-and-pinion steering, both of which would later appear on the TD sports car.
The Y-Type shared the contemporary TC Midget’s 1,250cc four-cylinder XPAG engine, albeit in single-carburettor form, and MG being part of the Nuffield Group, made use of some body panels from the Morris Eight.
Introduced for 1952, the YB version incorporated a number of improvements including Lockheed twin-leading-shoe brakes, stronger clutch, 15”-diameter wheels and a hypoid bevel rear axle, while modifications to the suspension curbed the tendency to oversteer.
This charming small sports saloon was purchased by its late owner in February 2006, having already been restored by a previous owner circa 2000 (invoices available).
The car displays a total of 72,000 miles on the odometer and comes with instruction manual, an incomplete run of Mo
