The Renault Kangoo Be Bop Z.E.

(for ‘zero emissions’) reflected Renault’s desire to make a firm commitment to electric vehicles.

Presented in 2009 at the general meeting of shareholders in Paris, this concept car based on the Kangoo Be Bop was equipped with a 60bhp electric motor and lithium-ion batteries giving it a range of about 100km, which was supposed to be increased later to 160km.

It could be recharged by means of a plug behind a cover next to the right-hand headlamp and could be connected to either a domestic socket or a fast-charging system.

On the sides of its ‘Energy Blue’ bodywork, a bar gauge indicated the battery charge level, while the energy consumption was optimised by reducing the ground clearance by 20mm and fitting LED lighting and disc wheels.
