Unveiled at the end of 1946 and produced from mid-1947, the 4CV’s problem was not to find customers, but to reach a rate of production that was sufficient to meet the very strong demand for it immediately after the war.

With its little rear-mounted 760cc engine, it had a monocoque construction and was both modern and economical; it was a huge success until it was replaced by the Renault 4 in 1962.
 
The 4CV from the collection is one of the oldest models, as it dates from 1949, two years after production began.

As can be seen from a copy of the assembly sheet from the time, it is an R1060.
