The Renault 25 went on sale in 1984 as the successor to the Renault 20 and 30; it was designed by Gaston Juchet (who was responsible for many of the company’s cars, including the Renault 16) and was characterized by its wraparound rear screen integrated into the tailgate.

The styling of the new model also proved to be one of the most aerodynamic in its class, while the interior was resolutely modern, with a dashboard conceived by Marcello Gandini, known for his many designs of Italian sports cars.

Compared with its predecessors, the Renault 25 had more elaborate suspension providing an excellent compromise between handling and ride comfort, and several different engines were available in the range.
