"URO: Unidentified Rolling Object!
Following the Second World War, engineer Willy Messerschmitt, a famous aircraft manufacturer, turned his attention to the automotive industry.
He called on engineer Fritz Fend, who had marketed light vehicles for the disabled.
The 175 cm3 Messerschmitt KR 175 for Kabinenroller or "cabin scooter" was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1953, and made a big impression.
Evoking an airplane fuselage, this tricycle could accommodate two people in tandem.
Access was via a cockpit canopy that tilted to the side, like the ME 109 fighter.
The single-cylinder 2-stroke engine was of Sachs origin, and the Messerschmitt gained in power in 1955 with the installation of a 191 cm3 block producing 9.5 hp, mated to a 4-speed gearbox.
At the crossroads between the worlds of aviation, motorcycles and automobiles, the Messerschmitt KR 200 is an atypical vehicle with a unique appeal.
