The early 1950s marked a new era for the marque au Biscione with the production of the Giulietta, powered by a 1,290 cm3 aluminum double-shaft.
1962 saw the appearance of the Spider Giulia 1600: although aesthetically close to its elder sibling, the mechanicals were revised with the installation of the 1,570 cm3 engine from the Giulia TI, more powerful, flexible and reliable than the 1,290 cm3, and the gearbox changed to a synchronized 5-speed.
1964 saw the introduction of the Veloce version, more powerful than the basic Giulia 1600.
The recipe was simple: the 4-cylinder was simply swapped with the 129 hp Sprint Speciale, which had different camshafts and two Weber 45 carburetors.
