SANS RÉSERVE

With its elegant, sporty lines, the Volvo P1800, unveiled at the Brussels Motor Show on January 16, 1960, owes its commercial success to Italian designer Pietro Frua’s styling and Volvo’s build quality.

One should not, however, underestimate the impact of the British TV series The Saint, in which Roger Moore, alias Simon Templar, drove the car!
Our example comes from the series produced in Gothenburg at Volvo’s Lundby plant.

Equipped with the B18B 1780cc engine delivering 103 hp, it is one of 4,500 units built between August 1965 and July 1966, before the arrival of the 1986cc B20B engine.
On this series, road handling benefited from major improvements thanks to a reinforced rear axle, which gave the car greater stability at high speed.

A new exhaust system also improved performance, allowing a top speed of 180 km/h—still a significant selling point at the time!
