The 220 (W 187) was presented alongside the 300 (W186) at the first Frankfurt Motor Show in April 1951, powered like this one by in-line six-cylinder engines with overhead camshafts, they symbolized Mercedes’ post-war revival; with the exception of its modern 2.2 l, 80 hp engine, the 220 model is based on the 170 S (itself a descendant of the pre-war 170 V), its distinguishing feature is the headlights integrated into the front fenders.


Available as sedan, cabriolet A, cabriolet B and coupé from 1953, 18,514 examples were built, of which only 1,278 were
cabriolets A; the W187 was replaced by the Ponton type 220 in 1954; registered in Finistère since 1980, our example, acquired in Nancy, entered Mr.

E.’s collection in 2007.
