The Renault Floride was presented at the Paris Motor Show in September 1958.

Available as a coupe or convertible, this elegant car designed by Pietro Frua aimed to conquer the American market.

Derived from the Dauphine, it kept its chassis and mechanics.

In 1962, in order to boost sales, it underwent some changes, notably with a new 956cc engine and a synchronized gearbox.

The bodywork also changed: the side vents were plugged and the rear hood received vents to cool the radiator behind the engine.

In 1963, the name Floride is removed in favor of the name Caravelle.

Mechanically, it received a 1 100 cc engine with 55 hp and four disc brakes, which was a first for a French car.

Finally, in 1966, the Caravelle 1100 S received a new dashboard and Weber carburetor which was to increase its power.

In the end, 117,000 units were manufactured in 10 years.
