In the spring of 1953, the production of the Aurelia was well underway.

Now that the Aprilia had found its successor, it was time to replace the little Ardea sedan.

The newcomer borrowed the V4 monobloc engine with an aluminum cylinder head and a rigid axle, but similarities ended there.

It was given an independent front axle, sophisticated telescopic suspensions and two innovative side camshafts.

With 1090cc and 38 hp at 4,400 rpm, the Appia is light enough (820 kg) to offer pleasant performance.

The elegant bodywork is still distinguished by its brilliant antagonistic doors and the absence of a central pillar.

The whole thing is nevertheless rigid with more modern lines than the Aurelia.
