MERCEDES-BENZ (G-WAGON) G 500

The Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon, or Geländewagen, emerged in the 1970s from a collaboration between Daimler-Benz and Steyr-Daimler-Puch. Initially designed for military use, it was later offered as a civilian vehicle in 1979.

The G 500, introduced later, offered a blend of luxury and off-road capability.

There is no direct successor to the G 500. The G-Class continues with updated models.

A lesser-known story: The Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, a significant Mercedes shareholder, is said to have suggested the G-Wagon's development, envisioning a robust vehicle for military applications.
