THE FAQs

Tell Me More

The Lincoln Model L, introduced in 1920, was the first automobile produced by the Lincoln Motor Company.

Henry Leland, previously of Cadillac, founded Lincoln during World War I to build Liberty aircraft engines. After the war, Lincoln struggled to transition to automobile production. The Model L, while mechanically advanced, faced criticism for its conservative styling.

The company faced financial difficulties, and in 1922, Henry Ford purchased Lincoln for $8 million.

Edsel Ford, Henry's son, became president of Lincoln and revitalized the brand by introducing more stylish designs.

The Model L was succeeded by the Lincoln Model K in 1931.

Did you know that the original Model L was designed with a V8 engine, a relatively new concept at the time? Leland was so confident in its durability that he offered a two-year warranty, unheard of in the early 1920s.
