Cord was an American luxury car manufacturer from 1929 to 1932 and again in 1936 and 1937.
Auburn Automobile Company, owner of Auburn and Duesenberg, marketed it. Errett Cord, Auburn's head, designed it.
Cord cars were known for their innovative technology and streamlined designs. The L-29 model was the first American front-wheel-drive car.
The 810/812 models had a coffin-nose design and hidden headlamps.
Despite their innovation, Cord cars were expensive and unreliable. The Great Depression contributed to the company's demise in 1937.
A lesser-known fact is that the 810/812's "coffin nose" design was penned by Gordon Buehrig. He sketched the design on a restaurant napkin.
