Picking the freshly introduced Clio, the 2.0-litre version was created for homologation in 1993 and marketed to capitalise on the success of the Renault-powered Formula One team WilliamsF1.

Following the original iteration's rapid sales, the near-identical Williams 2 and Williams 3 models were released.

Based on the 16V engine, the Williams used a new crankshaft, pistons, camshafts and con rods, which allowed improved performance from the 2-litre block, complemented by the stronger subframe, upgraded gearbox, bespoke four-to-one manifold and uprated suspension.

Characterised by its gold rims, bonnet intake and subtle graphics, the Williams became an instant classic.
