The Clio was first seen in 1990, created to replace the iconic Renault 5, one of the first FWD Superminis.
With a refinement rarely seen on Superminis, the all-new Clio inherited much of the 5's good qualities, adding comfort, grip, and safety.
While Renault is also respected for its engine efficiency and durability, it was the memorable and successful advertisement 'Nicole & Papa' campaign that helped to establish Clio as the best-selling Renault of the 1990s.
Launched in the UK in the spring of 1991, a comprehensive line-up of 3 and 5-door hatchbacks was available, with a series of new engines ranging from 1.2 to 2.0 litres.
Sat in the upper echelons of the phase one line-up, was the Baccarà model.
Furnished with metallic paint, a fully colour-coded exterior finish, front fog lights, alloy wheels, leather seats and wood trim, the Baccarà is a plusher version of the standard Clio, adding a little additional exclusivity to an already appealing model.
