Devised as a premium executive car, the Corsair is best defined as a car of its era, influenced by the new motorways and taking design cues from the jet-age.

Created for comfortable long-distance journeys, thanks to its double-skinned steel construction and sound-deadening, the car's typical ownership profile appealed to upwardly mobile families.

Initially released in 1963, it was the arrival of the compact 2.0L Essex V4 engine in 1967 that gave the car its true calling.

Capable of topping ~100 mph, the compact V4 was marketed for its smoothness and power.

In 1965 Crayford Engineering seized the opportunity to create an open top full 5-seater, offering further scope to the Corsair talents.

Based on the rare 2-door saloon, Crayford strengthened the sills and added a bar under the dash.

The car had very few direct competitors over its 3-year production run, and it was recognised as one of the most balanced conversions to be produced by Crayford.

This may have resonated with owners...
