After another 5 years a proper convertible version of the XJS was made available which replaced the XJ-SC.

With the introduction of the XJ-SC a new engine was available; the 3.6L straight-six.

The straight-six was the only engine available for the first couple of years of the XJ-SC's production run.

The 5.3L V12 version did make it to market in 1985.
