It was also one of the most strikingly beautiful, with its distinctive wings and curves penned by the legendary Frank Costin.
Launched in 1955 as a successor to the 1500ccc class Mark XIII, but built to meet the demands of the increasingly popular smaller-capacity 1100cc class, two works cars were produced for Team Lotus s initial use, one of which XPE 6 featured the newly-adopted 1098cc Coventry Climax FWA light-alloy engine.
