Conceived as a road going version of the Short Nose D-Type, to help clear an unsold stock of race cars languishing at Jaguar s Browns Lane factory, the infamous fire in February 1957 ultimately curtailed production and just 16 cars were built, making them the rarest of all Jaguars.

As a result of this scarcity a number of companies have attempted to replicate the XKSS but only two have successfully mastered the complexity of the original; one is Jaguar, with its Continuation XKSS and the other Classic Car Developments of New Zealand.
