AI Listing Summary

This 1971 Ford Escort RS1600, finished in Ermine White, boasts a reputable nine-year restoration and appears to be in very good overall condition with a near-perfect interior and a highly detailed engine bay. However, it requires mechanical attention as it's reluctant to stay running and has an underpowered battery, indicating it will need a thorough going-over before road use.

Condition

7

The car is described as having undergone a nine-year restoration and is presented in excellent condition with minimal cosmetic flaws. While the paint is largely immaculate, there are minor issues noted such as bubbling at the base of rear wheelarches, a scuff on the offside rear, and cracked paint on a seam. The interior is described as feeling 'like new' with professionally replaced seat covers and numerous other replaced interior parts in excellent condition. Mechanically, the engine bay is 'practically to concours standard' with upgrades and a previously rebuilt engine. However, the car is reluctant to stay running once started, and the battery is not powerful enough to turn the engine sufficiently, indicating it will need a 'full going through before further road use' and has been off the road for a significant period. The tires are also noted as being old and hard.

The Escort’s first owner, who bought it on the 24th of July 1971, exported it to Malta where it stayed for the next 34 years and 42,000 miles.

As you might expect, it was in an unusually rust-free condition when it returned to the United Kingdom in 2005.

Finished in its original colour of Ermine White and thought to be still powered by its original engine and gearbox, ‘BDA 2J’ was the subject of a reputed nine-year restoration before joining the Kinlee Collection, from which its third UK keeper purchased it in 2023.

The benefit of starting with a better-than-average bodyshell plus an unhurried restoration and improvements in paint technology mean this RS1600 is probably finished to a higher standard now than when it was new.

Because everything is spot-on: Squat down and admire how straight the flanks are; open the doors and appreciate the work that went into getting them to latch so easily; note the glazing, which is securely retained by plump and pliable rubber seals; and run your...
