Vehicle Details
AI Listing Summary
This 1979 MG Midget 1800 has undergone a significant K-Series engine and Ford Type 9 gearbox conversion, offering modern performance with retro looks. The car has been extensively modified, including a debumpered exterior and backdated interior, and presents well in British Racing Green, though it has some noted paint and bodywork imperfections requiring attention.

Condition
7
The car has had a significant engine and gearbox upgrade, and the interior has been backdated. The exterior has been debumpered and modified to look like an early square-arch car. While the paint is generally good with excellent shutlines on the wings and doors, the bonnet and boot lid do not align as neatly, and the boot lid has several small dents. There is also paint cracking near the offside front indicator, a scratch on the bonnet extending to the nearside wing, and rust on the leading edge of the driver's door. The alloy wheels have age-related marks, and the tyres, while having good tread, are from 2009/2010 and would likely need replacing soon. The fabric roof has small holes above the rear quarterlights. The suspension would benefit from attention as the front is described as 'wallowy'. Overall, it's a well-modified car with several cosmetic issues that require attention, aligning with a 'Very Good' condition rating.

In June 2025, the seller found himself facing a uniquely #firstworldproblem in that both his classic cars were off the road having their engines rebuilt, and rather than simply curse his poor timing and remain immobile he faced the challenge like a champ and bought a K-series-engined MG Midget.
As you do.
Lurking beneath RLV 843T’s bonnet is a twin-cam, 16-valve 1800cc K-Series engine that sends its 118bhp to the rear axle via a five-speed Ford Type 9 gearbox – and because it’s been thoughtfully tuned using a variety of parts including a larger metal throttle body, an upgraded cooling and fuelling system, lowered suspension, and Minilite-style alloy wheels, it produces way more power more reliably AND handles better than stock.
The interior has also been backdated to the earlier style, while the exterior has been debumpered and made to look like an early square-arch car.
It also features a Rover 45 ECU, complete with remote fob, enabling you to immobilise it just like you would a n...
