Silverstone Auctions • United Kingdom • 29 Jul 2017
Vehicle Details
AI Listing Summary
This is a Realm Engineering XKSS recreation, built with a GRP body and a chassis based on the original XKSS design but enhanced by Reynard Engineering. It features a 4.2 Litre Jaguar engine and drivetrain from 1967 and was built over nine years, completed around 2000, with attention to detail in sourcing period parts. The car has clocked 11,280 miles, supported by MOTs, and is noted for its fun driving experience.

Condition

The car presents well with good shine on the Old English White paintwork and good shut lines. The interior is described as pure fifties' Jaguar racer with nicely worn switch gear, and the engine bay doesn't immediately shout 'replica'. The odometer indicates 11,280 miles, corroborated by MOTs. However, it's a recreation built over nine years using some period parts from autojumbles, suggesting it may not be in pristine condition, and some reconditioning may be required to bring it to excellent condition.

A rare opportunity to own an impressive XKSS Recreation.
The XKSS was produced following the decision made by Jaguar to pull out of all motorsport at the end of 1955.
Sir William Lyons converted their 16 remaining 'D-Types' to road-going specification for the American market by adding a passenger door, a full-width windscreen and wipers, an exhaust heat shield, side screens, a folding roof, bumpers all round, a luggage rack and rear light clusters.
It was to become a complete icon of the era, an outstanding and good looking car driven by the privileged few, including movie stars of the day such as Steve McQueen.
Values of the original cars range from £8-£10 million today if you can find one.
