Inspired by the success of turbo-charging engines that had been seen in Formula 1, Ferrari decided to adopt it on their road-cars and in 1980 revealed the 208 GTB Turbo.
The model was created specifically for the Italian market and to counter the strict tax laws that penalised cars over 2000cc.
Under the bonnet there was a transversely mid-mounted aluminium V8 engine, with a capacity of 1991cc and a compression ratio of 7:1.
It had a claimed output of 220bhp at 7000rpm and was mated to an all synchromesh five speed transmission.
The GTB/GTS was split into two distinct production categories.
From 1980 to 1986 the 208 was based on the 308 design and looked very similar.
However, from 1986 to 1987, the new 328 model was used as the basis for the GTB Turbo and it appeared almost identical to its bigger brother.
In total, a mere 437 GTB Turbo models were manufactured.
This later generation GTB Turbo is a rare find indeed....
